The I-485, Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status is the primary application used when applying for your green card. This application is 18 pages long and requires time and patience. The filing fee associated with the I-485 is typically $1,140 along with a biometric service fee of $85.
You can choose to file your I-485 at the time you file your I-130, Petition for Alien Relative or you can file it separately. It is best to seek your lawyer’s advice on how to proceed.
Below are some required documentation that must be filed with your I-485 but by no means is it an exhaustive list:
1. Copy of I-797, approval notice if applicable
2. Copy of your beneficiary spouse’s birth certificate
3. Copy of your beneficiary spouse’s government issued ID
4. Two passport size photographs of petitioning spouse
5. Form I-94 arrival-departure record
6. Report of medical examination and vaccination record
7. Certified police and court records if you were ever arrested
You must submit all evidence requested by USCIS with your application. If you fail to submit required evidence, USCIS may reject or deny your application for failure to submit requested evidence or supporting documents.
