Alien Registration Requirements
If you’re visiting the United States and staying 30 days or longer, you need to know about registration requirements. It is the legal obligation of all unregistered aliens who are in the United States for 30 days or longer to comply with registration requirements. This may include fingerprinting as part of the process.
Don’t take this lightly – failure to comply may result in criminal and civil penalties up to and including misdemeanor prosecution, fines, and incarceration. For additional details and to understand exactly what you need to do, visit uscis.gov/alienregistration.
Address Change Notifications
Here’s something that catches a lot of people off guard: most non-US citizens must report changes to their address within 10 days of moving. This is a tight deadline, so don’t put it off if you’re relocating.
You can find additional details and step-by-step instructions at uscis.gov/addresschange.
Your I-94 Record – Don’t Lose This!
All non-immigrants should visit i94.cbp.dhs.gov and retrieve, print, and save their electronic I-94 record following each entry into the United States. This is crucial because from time to time, the record of your entry – an important document – disappears from the government’s website and you may lose the ability to prove that you entered the country lawfully.
