USCIS NO LONGER ACCEPTING DACA APPLICATIONS

The Trump administration today formally announced the end of the DACA program that has protected from deportation nearly 800,000 young undocumented immigrants brought to the U.S. as children.  Former President Barack Obama created the program through executive action five years. USCIS will no longer accept DACA applications, however, it will continue processing applications that were already filed, and it will renew work permits for anyone whose status expires in the next six months – March 5, 2018.  This six-month window gives Congress time to enact legislation before any currently protected individuals lose their ability to work, study, and live in the U.S. without fear of deportation.  Anyone whose status expires by March 5, 2018, has one month to apply for a new two-year permit.  My staff and I stand ready to assist those affected.
